This page explains how The Topsham Society website works and how enquiries sent to us are handled. It is written to be read easily, without legal jargon.
How this website works
A static information website, kept deliberately simple
This website is a static information site: its pages are plain HTML, CSS and a small amount of JavaScript used only to open the mobile navigation menu. There are no advertising trackers, no Google AdSense, no online account system, no payment system and no membership database of any kind on this website.
Email and telephone enquiries
When you email or telephone the Society, your enquiry is handled through the charity’s normal administration by its trustees or those assisting them. We use the information you provide to respond to your enquiry and, where relevant, to keep a record consistent with our charitable purposes and legal obligations. We do not sell or share your information for marketing purposes.
Sending us information
Please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive personal information, and please do not send original, irreplaceable historical photographs or documents without first agreeing this with us. See the Contact page and Heritage page for guidance on what to include when you get in touch.
Copyright and personal data in historical material
Historical photographs and documents shared with the Society may involve copyright belonging to someone other than the sender, and may contain personal data about identifiable people. We ask contributors to consider this before sharing material, and we take copyright and privacy into account in how we use anything we are given.

This website does not set advertising or analytics cookies. If a cookie-preference banner is ever introduced, it will use your browser’s local storage only to remember your choice, will offer equally clear options to accept or reject non-essential cookies, and will not load advertising or analytics scripts such as Google Analytics or Meta Pixel without your consent.
Keeping this policy current
If the Society ever introduces analytics, online forms, payment processing, embedded maps or other embedded media on this website, this privacy page will be updated to describe them accurately before they go live.
